Israel says Tehran may use Iraq to attack Jerusalem

Israel’s military intelligence chief Major General Tamir Hyman said Iran may use its increasing influence in Iraq to attack Israel, Sputnik News reported on Tuesday.

“Iraq is under growing influence of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps’s Quds Force and Iran,” The Times of Israel quoted Hyman as saying.

The remark came as he was attending a Tel Aviv conference.

Tehran is preparing to fill the vacuum further in the Middle East as US is preparing to leave Syria and reduce its forces in Afghanistan.

Tehran has already a significant role in Iraq’s Shiite dominated government.

Earlier on Friday Iranian Foreign Ministry slammed an unannounced visit by US president Donald Trump to Iraq, calling it a clear sign of US disrespect for Iraqi sovereignty.
