Pompeo in Egypt to discuss Syria, Iran aggression and ISIS

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo visited Egypt on Thursday as a part of his Middle East journey, discussing the future of Syria, Iran’s aggressive politics and defeating ISIS, UPI reported.

Egyptian President, Abdel Fatah el-Sisi welcomed Pompeo in Cairo, where the two sides discussed US foreign policy in the Middle East, especially the withdrawal of US troops from Syria.

The US Secretary of State was also set to deliver a speech on Iran’s negative role in destabilizing the region at American University of Cairo.

Pompeo was in Iraq on Wednesday, meeting a number of Kurdish official in Erbil.

US president Donald Trump announced on December 19 that ISIS has been defeated in Syria and US troops will soon withdraw from the country.

The decision brought huge criticism on Trump’s administration both locally and internationally.
